U.S. Muslims to Outnumber Jews By 2040

Muslims will outnumber Jews in the U.S. by 2040, the Times of Israel reports.

According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, the American Jewish population is growing slowly, but expected to begin to contract swiftly in the coming decades.

At the same time, American Muslims have a high birthrate and immigration numbers.

"Muslims currently make up some 3.45 million people living in the US, or about 1.1 percent of the total population, while a major Pew study last year suggested some 6.7 million Americans, or 2.1% of the population, identify as Jews," reports the Times of Israel.

“By 2050,” Pew states, “the US Muslim population is projected to reach 8.1 million, or 2.1% of the nation’s total population [at that time] — nearly twice the share of today.”

At the same time, the contraction in the Jewish community will cause the percentage of Jews to fall below that of Muslims.
