Twitter Refuses to Suspend Khamenei's Account Despite Threatening Israel With Genocide

The giant social media platform Twitter has refused to suspend the account of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei despite his tweet calling for the genocide of Israel.

Khamenei's tweet said, "Israel is a malignant cancerous tumor in the West Asian region that has to be removed and eradicated: it is possible and it will happen."

Despite a massive series of complaints and calls to suspend Khamenei's account, Twitter refused to do so despite its supposed policy against threats and hate speech.

Specifically, their regulation states, "You may not make specific threats of violence or wish for the serious physical harm, death, or disease of an individual or group of people."

Yet Twitter is notorious for its refusal to deal with antisemitic tweets.

According to the magazine Fast Company, Twitter said of Khamenei's murderous rhetoric, "There was no violation of the Twitter Rules against abusive behavior."

If threatening genocide is not abusive, one wonders what is.
