Netanyahu to Push for Trump to Support Annexation of Settlements

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing for President Donald Trump to declare support for annexing the West Bank settlements before the Israeli elections next month.

According to the Times of Israel, the information came from officials in the Prime Minister's Office.

Referring to statements from the U.S. ambassador to Israel David Friedman and envoy Jason Greenblatt that Israel would retain some of the settlements, one of the officials said,

Ahead of the elections, something will happen. President Trump will repeat the statements by Friedman and Greenblatt in his own words. It will likely be dramatic.

A source in the settlers' umbrella organization, the Yesha Council, said,

We want to extend sovereignty over all areas of Judea and Samaria, but we’ll go out and dance if the Trump declaration speaks of the settlements alone.

During the last election campaign earlier this year, Netanyahu pledged to annex all the settlements in the West Bank in stages.
