Pentagon Presents Plan to Send 120,000 Troops to Middle East if Iran Tensions Rise

Amid rising tensions with Iran in the Persian Gulf, the Pentagon has devised plans to send as many as 120,000 troops if Iran strikes U.S. forces in the Middle East.

That number would approach Iraq War levels and shows how seriously American officials are taking the threats. American intelligence agencies believe that Iran may try to use a proxy in Iraq or Syria to harm U.S. troops.

At a meeting last week in Washington, Trump administration security officials discussed the plans, the New York Times reports. The United States recently sent an aircraft carrier, along with supporting warships, and a Patriot missile battery system to the Gulf.
