IDF Destroys Syrian Army Outposts

In a rare move revealed Wednesday, an IDF special forces unit infiltrated the demilitarized zone on the Syrian border and destroyed two Syrian army outposts.

According to the Jerusalem Post, the operation was undertaken in response to Syria’s militarization of the zone in violation of a 1974 agreement. Only UN forces are permitted in the zone.

The operation involved soldiers from the Nahal Brigade and the Yahalom special combat engineering unit.

The unit was not detected during the operation and succeeded in destroying both outposts.

Lt.-Col. Tal Goritzki said that the operation was not only to deter Syria but also Hezbollah.

“We know about the collaboration between the Syrian military and Hezbollah,” he said. “Every Syrian military establishment has the potential to become a dual military establishment. We won't allow southern Syria to become southern Lebanon.”
