Alongside Israeli Support

for Syria Strikes - Anxiety

Despite public support for U.S. strikes in Syria, Israel is concerned about the long-term repercussions on its security.

According to the Algemeiner, the Israeli security establishment is concerned about two factors: The strikes may facilitate a U.S. withdrawal from Syria, and motivate possible arms sales from Russia.

An unnamed security official told Israeli television, "The attack will allow the Americans to say, ‘We did what was necessary’ and leave Syria.

Another fear that has arisen in the security establishment is that the Western powers’ operation will provide Russia with the excuse to ignore Israel’s requests and expedite the sale of advanced anti-aircraft weapons to Assad’s army, something that would harm the IDF’s freedom of action.

Publicly, Israel has expressed strong support for the strikes.
