President Rivlin Does Damage Control

Tells Pelosi U.S.-Israel Ties 'are not dependent on the relationship with one particular party'

-

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin sought to do damage control after two weeks of upheaval in the U.S.-Israel relationship.

Rivlin called House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and told her that the alliance between Israel and the U.S. is "not dependent on the relationship with one particular party."

The Times of Israel reports that the president's office said in a statement that the call took place "against the backdrop of recent events."

Rivlin told Pelosi "the relationship between the State of Israel and the United States is a link between peoples, which relies on historical ties, deep and strong friendships and shared values that are not dependent on the relationship with one particular party."
