Pompeo Makes Historic Visit to West Bank Settlement

In the first visit by an American secretary of state to a West Bank settlement, Mike Pompeo visited the Psagot winery on Thursday, the Times of Israel reports.

The US position on the settlements had traditionally been that they are a violation of international law and an obstacle to peace, though this view has been at least somewhat reversed by the Trump administration.

Before Pompeo’s visit, Palestinians rioted near the site, throwing rocks at security guards. Israeli leftist group Peace Now protested peacefully during Pompeo’s visit.

Following his visit, Pompeo announced that all products produced in the settlements will be labeled as being from Israel.

“All producers within areas where Israel exercises the relevant authorities …  will be required to mark  goods as ‘Israel,’ ’Product of Israel,’ or ‘Made in Israel’  when exporting to the United States,” he said.
