Greenblatt: No Confederation

The upcoming Trump administration peace plan will not include the recently mooted idea of a confederation between Jordan and the Palestinians.

Envoys Jason Greenblatt and Jared Kushner reportedly proposed the idea to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at a recent meeting. Abbas insisted that any confederation also include Israel.

Greenblatt, however, has told the Times of Israel, "We’re not looking at a confederation model."

Commenting on the as yet undisclosed peace plan, Greenblatt said, "It will include a resolution to all of the core issues, including the refugee issue, and will also focus on Israel’s security concerns."

"But we also want to be fair to the Palestinians," he added. "We have tried hard to find a good balance. Each side will find things in this plan that they don’t like. There are no perfect solutions."
