Bibi Pledges Not to Annex West Bank

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unequivocally rejected the idea of annexing the West Bank, the Times of Israel reported.

At a press briefing after his meeting with President Donald Trump, Netanyahu stated, “I said it before, and I will repeat it here again: I don’t want to annex close to 2.5 millions Palestinians to Israel. I do not want them to be our subjects."

Netanyahu did note, however, that he asked Trump to recognize Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights, something he has been pushing for since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war.

The Israeli Right has been pushing for the annexation of some or all of the West Bank for some time, but their campaign has picked up speed since Trump's election, which they view as a historical opportunity.
