Horrific Antisemitic Attack in New York

Victims Stabbed With Machete

A brutal antisemitic attack occurred in Monsey, New York on Saturday night.

An attacker entered the house of a Hasidic rabbi during a Hanukkah celebration and stabbed five people, apparently with a machete. Two are in critical condition.

The New York Times reports Aron Kohn, a survivor of the attack saying, “I was praying for my life. He started attacking people right away as soon as he came in the door. We didn’t have time to react at all.”

“We saw him pull a knife out of a case,” he added. “It was about the size of a broomstick.”

The attacker apparently then attempted to enter a synagogue next door, but was prevented from doing so by alert congregants, who locked the door.

Police said a suspect is in custody.

The attack comes as the culmination of a series of increasingly violent attacks on Orthodox Jews in the New York area.
