Legendary Jewish Comedian Jackie Mason Dies at 93

Legendary Jewish comedian Jackie Mason has died at 93.

The Times of Israel reports that Mason died in Manhattan on Saturday after a two-week hospitalization.

The cause of death was not specified.

Born Jacob Marza into a family of rabbis, Mason went from a rabbi himself to a standup comedian and actor, becoming for many the quintessential Jewish comic of his generation

He began on the Jewish comedy circuit in the Catskills, but quickly moved on to television shows, Broadway, and the occasional film.

“I have a great identification with Judaism as a religion and as a culture, and all the values that created such a great history, and the Jewish contribution to the betterment of all humanity. Everything about my attitude and my thoughts were impacted greatly by being raised in this culture,” he once said.
