Lieberman Endorses Annexation of at Least One Major Settlement

Head of the Yisrael Beiteinu party Avigdor Lieberman, who may be the kingmaker in Israel's September 17 elections, appears to have joined Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in endorsing the annexation of at least some settlements.

The Jerusalem Post reports that, on a visit to Maaleh Adumim, the third-largest West Bank settlement, Lieberman said, "I am sure that in the next term, we will be able to apply Israeli sovereignty in Maaleh Adumim."

Maaleh Adumim went heavily for the Likud in the April elections, and Lieberman may be trying to make inroads in Netanyahu's support.

Lieberman demolished Netanyahu's attempt to form a government in April, leading to new elections, and has been swinging between the center and the right during the ensuing campaign.

Lieberman himself lives in the settlement of Nokdim.
