Israel Busts Russian Hackers Targeting U.S.

Israel saved the U.S. from a major hacking attack, the New York Times reported.

The hacking attempt by the Russian government used the company Kaspersky Lab to spy on U.S. government agencies through the use of fake anti-virus software that was in fact used to steal information.

Israeli intelligence detected the program and initiated its own hacking operation in 2015. It later alerted the U.S. and the program was deleted from government computers.

According to the Times, the program was being used by the State Department, the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Justice Department, Treasury Department and the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Both the U.S. and Israeli governments refused to comment on the case.
