Iraqi Demonstrators Burn Down Iranian Consulate

Protests in Iraq have becomes the largest in that nation's history.

On Wednesday, demonstrators burned down the Iranian consulate in Najaf, venting their anger at neighboring Iran, which many Iraqis blamed for the corruption and stagnation in the country. Thirty-five people were arrested and one person was killed in the incident.

Iraqis took to the streets earlier this month to voice their frustration over foreign dominance and the corruption of the political class. Though Iraq is taking a hard line on the protests, that has so far not deterred Iraqi demonstrators.
