Report: Iran Building Massive Tunnel Network for Its Nuclear Program | ||
| ||
Iran is constructing a huge tunnel network that is almost certainly connected to its nuclear program. The New York Times states that Israeli and American intelligence services are convinced that the construction is intended for expanded nuclear facilities. The tunnels are apparently meant to be deep enough to thwart attacks from the air. Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz made the first hints of the project public last month, describing "a new facility being built at an underground site near Natanz." Robert Litwak, an expert on Iran's nuclear program, commented, "Iran’s move at Natanz amps up pressure on the United States to reach a new deal by highlighting the risk of a nuclear breakout should diplomacy fail."
