Palestinians Divide Over Gaza Protests

Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah were daggers drawn on Saturday as mass protests against Hamas rule in Gaza continued.

Violent demonstrations against Hamas rule entered their third day over the weekend, with one protester setting himself on fire. It is unclear whether he died of his injuries.

Hamas forces have beaten protesters and used live rounds to disperse crowds.

“This is not the Israeli occupation forces!!” Fatah Central Committee member Hussein al-Sheikh tweeted, according to the Times of Israel. “It is the Hamas gangs that are terrorizing and suppressing the hungry in the Gaza Strip.”

PLO Executive Committee member Wasel Abu-Youssef said Fatah had asked Egypt and the Arab League to intervene, and a high level meeting was requested.
