Israel Shoots Down 'Suspicious Flying Object' Over Dimona Nuclear Plant

Israeli fighter jets shot down Thursday a "suspicious flying object" near the Dimona nuclear plant, the location of Israel's alleged nuclear program.

The object was described as a motor-operated balloon. Airspace over the nuclear reactor is a no-fly zone.

An Israeli official told Haaretz: "It definitely flew over Dimona, although we are still trying to determine what that entailed and the military is now handling the matter."

In October 2009, fighter jets intercepted an Israeli aircraft that accidentally flew into the area and forced it to land at an airstrip in southern Israel.
