Noam Shalit: Gilad's Abduction a War Crime

-

The father of imprisoned Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit will ask a U.N. panel next week to declare the 2006 abduction of his son a war crime, Haaretz reports.

Noam Shalit will tell the Geneva-based U.N. Human Rights Council, headed by Richard Goldstone, that the abduction of his son violates the Geneva Convention. Shalit will also call for Gilad's immediate release by his captors.

Gilad Shalit has been held for more than three years. In that time, he has communicated with his family by letter but no organization has been allowed to visit him, a violation of international law.

Noam Shalit will also tell the panel that he holds Hamas political bureau leader Khaled Meshal personally responsible for his son's abduction, a departure from his previous statements.
