Oh, Canada

47% Increase in anti-Jewish Hate Crimes

Despite being just 1 percent of the population in Canada, Jews were targeted for 14 percent of the hate crimes in 2021, a 47 percent increase over the previous year.

Statistics Canada reports a 59 percent uptick in anti-Jewish violence over the last two years.

Canadian Jewish leaders are calling this a "call to action."

"Statistically, Canadian Jews were more than 10 times more likely than any other Canadian religious minority to report being the target of a hate crime,” said Shimon Koffler Fogel, president and CEO of the Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs. “This is alarming."

Black Canadians, who make up about 3.5 percent of the country's population, were the only other minority group to report a greater number of hate crimes. Overall, 1 in 1,000 Jewish Canadians were targets of hate attacks.
