Netanyahu: U.S. - Israel Bond 'Unbreakable'

Israel's bond with the United States is "close" and "unbreakable" Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Wednesday, affirming Israel's close relationship with the U.S. at a time of increased tension, Ynet reports.

"We have a close relationship with the United States, which President Obama defined in his speech in Cairo as unbreakable, and it is indeed unbreakable," Netanyahu said in a speech at the home of the U.S. ambassador in Herzliya.

Though the United States and Israel have had sharp disagreements over the issue of West Bank settlement building, a meeting this week between Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak and U.S. Mideast envoy George Mitchell reportedly brought the two sides closer to an agreement on the issue.

Netanyahu is due to meet with Mitchell next week to discuss the settlements issue further.
