Blinken Tells Israeli FM White House Wants Two-State Solution

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken touted the two-state solution to his Israeli counterpart on Monday, saying it is the only way to preserve Israel’s future.

The Times of Israel reports that Blinken spoke with Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi for the third time in a month, and endorsed the idea of two states.

A State Department spokesman said, “The Secretary also emphasized the Biden administration’s belief that the two-state solution is the best way to ensure Israel’s future as a Jewish and democratic state, living in peace alongside a viable and democratic Palestinian state.”

It is believed, however, that overwhelmed with domestic issues such as the coronavirus pandemic, the Biden administration will not pursue any major initiatives on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at the moment.
