Bibi and Gantz Clash Over Protests

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz displayed serious dissension within the government on Sunday over the issue of the ongoing protests against Netanyahu.

The Times of Israel reports that, at the weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said, “I see an attempt to trample on democracy. There is a distortion of all the rules. Nobody restricts the demonstrations. On the contrary — they are accommodating toward them.”

Gantz replied that protests are “the lifeblood of democracy, and added, “As a government, we have a responsibility to allow the demonstrations to take place and to protect the demonstrators, who were unfortunately attacked yesterday.”
