Israel Girds for Unrest as Slain Journalist's Funeral Set to Take Place in Jerusalem


Israel is bracing for further unrest as the funeral of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh is set to take place in Jerusalem.

Akleh was killed in unclear circumstances in Jenin on Wednesday. She was already honored at a ceremony in Ramallah, and mourners will now take part in a processional to a cemetery in Jerusalem.

Police are on highest alert for violence in the procession, as tens of thousands are expected to take part.

“The whole world is looking at us and at this event,” a police official said. “The goal is to prevent as much as possible any friction.”
