Jordan's King Endorses Middle East Military Alliance | ||
| ||
The king of Jordan has endorsed a broad, regional military alliance between Middle Eastern states--which would likely include Israel. King Abdullah II compared such an alliance to NATO, and said, "I would be one of the first people that would endorse a Middle East NATO." "The mission statement has to be very, very clear," he added. "Otherwise, it confuses everybody." Although Abdullah did not mention Israel, the Jewish state already has de facto military ties with several Middle Eastern states, mostly in order to deter Iranian terrorism and imperialism.
