Trump and Abbas set White House meeting

President Donald Trump and his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas are set to meet on May 3 at the White House.

The Times of Israel reports that Azzam al-Ahmad, a senior Fatah official, told the Arab press,

President Abbas will go to discuss the vital political and economic issue, with an emphasis on confirming the two-state solution, completely ending settlement construction and the occupation, and establishing a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital.

Trump has already met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and expressed interest in making a new push for a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.

According to the Times, Abbas told Trump's special envoy Jason Greenblatt that a peace agreement was possible.

Netanyahu has already stated that he is willing to meet with Abbas at any time for talks without preconditions.
