Yemen's Al Qaeda faction called on Muslims in the Arabian Peninsula to "carry weapons and defend [Islam]" in an audio tape posted to a website often used by terrorists, Reuters reports.

"The Christians, the Jews, and the treacherous apostate rulers have pounced on you...you have no other way out from this plight other than to wage jihad," said Saeed al-Shehri, the wing's deputy leader and former Guantanamo inmate.

Shehri, who Yemen claimed it had killed in an airstrike last December, also said Osama bin Laden had helped coordinate the failed bomb attack on a Detroit-bound plane on Christmas Day.
