Iran Cleric: U.K. Embassy Staff to Stand Trial

A senior Iranian cleric told worshippers at Friday prayers in Tehran that some of the British embassy employees arrested a week ago will be put on trial over allegations they helped instigate post-election demonstrations, Bloomberg reports.

"The people from the British Embassy who were behind the recent riots were arrested and they will definitely be tried," said the head of the Guardian Council Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Gordon Brown said, "We are aware of these reports and we are concerned. We are seeking clarification as a matter of urgency."
