New IAEA Chief: No Sign Iran Seeks Nukes

Incoming International Atomic Energy Agency head Yukiya Amano told Reuters Friday he has no reason to suspect Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons through its disputed atomic program.

"I don't see any evidence in IAEA official documents about this," said Amano, in his first direct comment on the issue since his election.

When asked how he would approach Iran and Syria, two countries subjected to stalled IAEA probes, Amano said "I'm not going to be a "soft" Director-General or a "tough" Director-General."
