E.U. Parliament Endorses Goldstone Report

Israel quickly condemned a European Parliament resolution supporting claims IDF soldiers committed "war crimes" during last year's Gaza War, Haaretz reports.

"We find this resolution flawed and counterproductive," said Yoel Mester, spokesman for the E.U.'s Israeli mission. "While other players are striving to support the peace process and to start the proximity talks between Israel and [the] Palestinians, it is regrettable that the European Parliament chooses to concentrate on a highly controversial issue."

Wednesday's decision effectively backs South African judge Richard Goldstone's assertion that both Israel and the Palestinians carried out crimes against humanity during Operation Cast Lead.

The resolution, which was adopted despite heavy lobbying from European Jewish groups, urges the E.U.'s 27-member states to monitor both sides' probes into Goldstone's allegations.
