Clinton Urges Iran Sanctions as China Balks

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday disagreed with China's latest assessment of diplomatic efforts aimed at derailing Iran's controversial atomic agenda, AFP reports.

"The fact is we haven't really seen much in the way of response," Clinton said, after Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jieche insisted earlier that negotiations with Tehran had "entered a crucial stage."

"Sometimes we see a response from a part of the [Iranian] government that is then retracted from another part of the government," Clinton added.

The U.S. seeks to cripple Iran's oil refining capacities and gasoline imports by refusing financial assistance to companies who help expand these markets within the Islamic republic.

"We're going to continue to reach out to all of our colleagues in this effort, including, of course, China," she said.
